Flora Community Park
The Flora Community Park is home to shelter houses for small family groups and playgrounds for children. Sports facilities include tennis and basketball courts, horseshoe pits, hard ball and softball diamonds, as well as a Little League diamond.
Organized youth summer sports activities are hosted here. Pony League, Little League, Girls Softball, and many soccer groups are included.
The park also includes a horse show arena, picnic areas, and a very popular .9 mile walking track which passes near the
Carroll County Community Center. The Carroll County 4-H Fairgrounds are incorporated into the Flora Community Park as well. The various buildings house project displays during Fair time. Adjacent areas house the midway and rides during the Fair.
The Merchants’ Building is used for activities throughout the year, including the
Carroll County Flower and Garden Fair each April. A Scout cabin for local Boy Scout activities is also located within the park.
A fenced-in "tot" playground gives a special opportunity for smaller children to enjoy the surrounding tree-lined park. Specifically built wooden play areas were erected by the Flora Park Board and are functional as well as adequately visible from other areas of the park.
The annual
Hog Jog races and walk begin and end in the park area. Along with a breakfast and cruise-in, this activity attracts many visitors. A circus and other entertainments have been hosted.
The Park has been administered since 1976 by a Board whose members have worked long and hard to develop and maintain the Park. A large DNR grant was secured in 2000, and the town board provides a generous budget. Volunteers of all ages and seasonal employees maintain and enhance the extensive grounds. Trees and flowers are added each year.
The Park is the site of an authentic log cabin which has been restored and outfitted. The Rotary Club/Scout Cabin building provides a year-round facility for meetings and celebrations.
